Roches du Saut Roland, Dompierre-du-Chemin, April 20 2018 (ii)
A quiet walk on the outskirts of Fougères, Brittany, at Les Roches du Saut Roland.
A rocky outcrop in a densely wooded area comprising some looming cliff-faces (which apparently pre-date the mining of the area for quartzite over a century and a half ago), the area is tenuously associated to Charlemagne by local chivalric legend.
With few people around the ambient sound of songbirds, running water and a light breeze were sheltered from most outside sounds by the surrounding sheer rock faces measuring up to 173m in height.
